Acclaimed post-apocalyptic movie out next month

The Survivalist, a highly regarded film from the UK will receive a DVD release through Eagle Entertainment. A thriller from talented first time director Stephen Fingleton, it will be available November 22.

Starvation is rife. Strangers are always dangerous. Nature has reclaimed the world. The titular character (Martin McCann) lives off the grid, and by his wits. He is alone. When a starving woman and her teenage daughter (Olwen Fouéré and Mia Goth) discover his forest refuge his loneliness drives him to overcome his suspicion and strike a bargain with them in return for bed and board.

Human desire ignites a craving for balance and soon outweighs his rigid existence of necessity. Soon an exchange becomes an uneasy, ongoing arrangement, which threatens not only his carefully constructed world but also his life.

Jeanette Catsoulis reviewing it in the New York Times writes “impressively lean and rigidly controlled, The Survivalist achieves, at times, the primitive allure of a silent movie.”

Kim Newman reviewing the film in Empire magazine notes “This is a harsh, unsentimental science fiction film, though the performances suggest small surviving flames of empathy and yearning amid the tough, practical attitudes.”

“Fingleton writes with gusto and flair” raves The Guardian.

“Really gripping, really smart and really well made,” raves Mark Kermode reviewing it for BBC 5. “It's been nominated for a BAFTA and rightly so.”
