Acclaimed New Border Noir Explores Dark Night of the Soul

Three West, an acclaimed new desert noir, will be out through Eagle Entertainment. Directed by newcomer Greg Kwedar, it is available on DVD October 18.

A trio of border agents are nearly through with their long, monotonous shift at a highway checkpoint out in the desert. On what seems like another routine stop, the contents of one car, driven by a solitary driver, will throw their lives into chaos.
Young and mostly green agents Flores (Gabriel Luna) and Davis (Johnny Simmons) have much to learn. They fall under the supervision of veteran agent Hobbs (Clifton Collins Jnr), a hardened and cynical officer.

Winner of the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature at the SXSW Film Festival, Three West pits the men against each other as events fast spiral out of their control. Dark secrets are soon revealed. No one's life will be safe. Each passing hour and treacherous twist will bring them closer to their moment of truth as the line between right and wrong shifts like the desert itself.
Mark Saldana writing for True View Reviews raves “the best film I saw in the Narrative Film competition.”

“This is done masterfully,” writes Mark Mukasa in the Upcoming. “The core perspectives of each character are entrenched, but are elaborated upon to explore the difficult interplay between adhering to a strict black and white morality versus a survivalist mentality.”

Slant magazine observes “the film reveals itself to be an existential parable in the tradition of the western genre, reflecting a uniquely American ethos that posits the individual as being ultimately responsible for his or her self-creation and self-destruction.”
