Thrilling sci-fi adventure Revolt recasts Lee Pace as worthy action hero

07/09/2017

Sci-fi action thriller Revolt released through Eagle Entertainment lands on Blu-ray and DVD September 27. Directed by Joe Miale, from a script he co-wrote with Rowan Athale, the Dutch production, shot in South Africa and set in Kenya is an ambitious medium budget feature in the mould of District 9, set in the not-too-distant-future.

A soldier played by Lee Pace awakens in a jail cell with no memory of how he got there. Earth has been invaded by alien robots. On the run with a Nadia, a French foreign aid worker (Bèrenice Marlohe), Bo hopes to rejoin American forces to help with a rear guard action against the invasion.

According to Nadia the world has been invaded by strange machines. She informs Bo all the major cities around the world have been defeated. Suffering amnesia Bo can only recall fragments of the previous events. Bo also displays a strange ability to discharge electric currents after a close encounter with one of the machines. The pair plan on a dangerous trek to Nairobi where a group of resistance fighters are in hiding.

The desolate African landscapes, and terrific use of crumbling, deserted locations adds to the sense of pending doom in Revolt. Performances by the actors match the bleak atmosphere of desperation.

Mark Cole reviewing for the online movie preview site Rivets on the Poster claims Revolt is “put together with a lot of care and skill.”
