Star Leaf promises out of this world stoner adventure

Three friends on a hike find a secret grove of extra-terrestrial marijuana and must fight for their lives when they anger the other-worldly forces protecting the plants. This is the premise of Star Leaf, the latest offering from Feature Films. The movie will go day and date on Blu-ray and DVD on October 21.

Starrring Julian Gavilanes, Russell Hodgkinson, Svetlana Soutirina and Richard Cranor, who also serves as co-writer and director, Star Leaf hinges on James, a former Marine sniper suffering from PTSD after his deployment in Hindu Kush. Tim, his squadmate has repressed some equally haunting memories but lives a carefree hippie lifestyle alongside his Twilight fixated girlfriend Martha. Directed to the Olympic Mountains where they have been told a super-strain of marijuana crops have been left on a plantation by aliens to open the minds of humans to the greater universe. This is only the beginning of the weirdness. Wait for the tripping fairy and the bear-humping moose. Soon reality and fantasy blur and our trio are left with experiences out of this world.

"In a short space of time Star Leaf manages to build interesting characters and efficiently convey a number of ideas without glossing over them or cramming them in, thus providing, like the journey of its characters, a slightly bewildering but ultimately fulfilling experience," raves Starburst magazine.

"The film is a fun adventure, relying on developed characters and their interactions with some good humour thrown in," notes Pat Torfe at horror website Bloody Disgusting.
