Aussie thriller John Doe: Vigilante out in October

John Doe: Vigilante, an Australian thriller, starring Jamie Bamber from Battlestar Galactica, hits shelves on Blu-ray and DVD October 22. A Monster Pictures acquisition out through Gryphon, the film is directed by Kelly Dolen from a screenplay by Stephen M. Coates.

Some call him a hero. Some call him a villain. He's "John Doe: Vigilante" - an ordinary man who decides to take the law into his own hands. Frustrated with a failing legal system that continues to allow violent criminals to go free, John Doe begins exacting justice the only way he knows how - by killing one criminal at a time. Soon he becomes a media sensation and inspires a group of copycat vigilantes, but who is the real John Doe - a pillar of justice or a cold-blooded murderer? You decide.

On the eve of his verdict, the vigilante grants an exclusive interview in prison to investigative journalist Ken Rutherford (Lachy Hulme). Here he reveals the targets of his murder spree: two time scumbags that have been convicted, sentenced and eventually released only to commit another crime. Pedophile priests, date rapists, abusive husbands find themselves lined up in the cross-hairs.

Once copycats emerge and footage of John Doe's victims hits the internet becoming an overnight sensation the righteous motives of the vigilante are soon called into question. Are his acts of self-propelled justice the hallmarks of a serial killer?

Also starring Sam Parsonson and Gary Abrahams, John Doe: Vigilante played theatrically in the US earlier in the year. The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a thoughtful examination of the failures of the legal system."
