New labels deliver Savannah and Scorned in August


Two new independent labels SC Films and Feature Films are offering new titles through Gryphon this August. SC Films will be releasing Savannah, the true story of Ward Allen, an outdoorsman who rejects his aristocratic heritage to hunt fowl along the rivers of Georgia with his long-time friend, a freed slave named Christmas Moultrie. Ward is a master of Shakespeare and the shotgun, a contradictory character who supplies the local markets with fowl and in doing so is often made an example of by the law. His regular confrontations with a judge (played by Oscar nominee Hal Holbrook) are one of the film's many highlights.

Set at the turn of the century, Savannah details the changing values of a society are distilled through the creation of legend. The story of Ward is passed on by Moultrie as an elderly man to a young boy. Director Annette Haywood-Carter debuted with the Joyce Carol Oates adaptation Foxfire, which introduced Angelina Jolie, assembles an outstanding cast that includes Jim Caviezel (Person of Interest, The Thin Red Line), Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Jaimie Alexander from Thor: The Dark World and The Last Stand opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) and Sam Shepard (the festival hit Cold in July).

Savannah is an independently made film, with a cast, direction and production of the highest standards," notes 1nflux Magazine.

Feature Films will enter the market with its first film Scorned, starring Billy Zane, AnnaLynne McCord and Viva Bianca. The thriller set against the Hollywood Hills involves Kevin (Zane) cheating on his girlfriend Sadie, with her best friend. Sadie has planned a romantic weekend in her own twisted imagination that involves the three of them, not to mention, some terror, torture and psychosexual games.

Scorned and Savannah will be released on Blu-ray and DVD August 20.
